The most commonly used industrial springs are Disc Springs. Khodiyar Spring Industries is the largest in India. We manufacture a complete range of supreme quality industrial springs.

Disc springs are the angular disc-like springs and these conically designed springs are believed to be the best solutions for many of the engineering problems. Disc springs are also known as washers. These springs are used for the best utilization of space. Disc springs have a high load capacity and by arranging them into stacked columns, variable spring characteristics can be achieved.

The material can be customized as per the client’s requirements.

Disc springs form a very good example of equally combining high force in a small space. To meet the client’s specific requirements of special applications, the customized designs of disc springs can be prepared with the help of a computer program.

The disc springs come with or without contact flats. The purpose of contact flats is to help in alignment during stacking, but they reduce the lever arm length and therefore cause an increase in the spring force.

Disc Springs Specifications

At Khodiyar Spring Industries, the disc springs are manufactured by following the DIN 2093 and DIN 6796 standards. The material utilized in the manufacturing of the disc springs is – 17/7PH, 304, 50 CrV4.

The disc springs serve as an energy storage system in an internal combustion engine, nuclear power, oil and gas exploration, turbine and jet systems.

Disc Spring Stack and Helical Spring

When the same amount of stress is applied on both - the disc spring stack and coil spring, the results obtained from both the systems are different. Disc springs are designed for high loads and coil spring designs are not much of any practical use.

Stalk Length

A rule of thumb is applicable in the stacking of the disc springs, in stacking the disc springs the stacks should be kept as short as possible. Friction and other power make a stack uneven. To stabilize the long stacks, guide washers are used. The thickness of the guide washers should be one and a half times the guide diameter.

Advantages of Disc Springs

Disc springs save space.

Low cost of maintenance.

High energy storage capacity.

Long service life.

Generates high spring force and makes good use of space.

No deformation or tiredness.

Good shock absorption and energy dissipation.

Adaptable to stacking in numerous configurations.

Disc Springs in Series and Parallel Combinations

Different parallel and series arrangements of the individual disc springs can be used to create varying spring loads and spring deflections.

Disc springs arranged in series combinations

Awesome Image

When disc springs are arranged in series combinations, the individual disc springs are assembled as opposed to each other to form the spring column. The series combination of disc springs multiplies the deflection and the force remains the same as in the single spring.

Total Load = Load/Force on 1 Disc

Total Deflection = Deflection of 1 disc X No. of discs

Disc springs arranged in parallel combinations:

When disc springs are stacked in parallel combinations, the individual disc springs are ‘nested’ inside each other. In the parallel combination of disc springs, the force gets multiplied and the deflection in the spring column will remain the same.

Total Deflection = Deflection of 1 Disc

Total Load/Force = Load/Force on 1 Disc X Number of Discs
